Types of Non Woven Bags: D-Cut vs U-Cut vs Handle vs Stitched, and Which Suits Your Shop
There are four main types of non woven carry bag, and they differ mostly in how the handle is made. A D-cut bag has the handle punched into the bag itself. A U-cut bag is shaped like a vest, with two straps cut from the bag. A handle bag has a sewn loop handle. A stitched bag has a loop handle and a side patty — a side panel that gives the bag depth so it stands on the counter. The right one depends on what you put in it, how often your customer reuses it, and how much you want to spend per bag.

D-cut bags: the everyday printed bag
The D-cut gets its name from the D-shaped (or oval) handle hole punched near the top. There is no separate handle to sew on, which keeps the cost down, so it is where most shops start.
- Choose it for: readymade and textile shops, footwear, mobile shops, tailors, ladies corners and medical shops — goods that are light to medium weight and fit flat.
- Sizes: 9 × 11 to 16 × 20 inch.
- Printing: one or two colour offset print. The 9 × 11 size is printed on one side; printing both sides adds ₹30/kg. For photographs and full-colour designs there is also a digital D-cut in 13 × 19 and 16 × 19 inch.
- Skip it when: the goods are heavy. A punched handle carries less weight than a sewn one, and a heavy shoebox or a stack of garments is better in a handle bag.
U-cut bags: for counters and quick billing
The U-cut is the vest-shaped bag — the shape most people know from plastic covers. It has a gusset, so it opens wide and stands on the counter while you fill it.
- Choose it for: bakeries, hotels and tiffin centres, kirana stores, supermarkets, wine shops and medical shop counters — many small items, packed quickly.
- Sizes: 10 × 14, 13 × 16, 16 × 20 and 20 × 20 inch.
- Why it is cheap per bag: our U-cut bags are 60 GSM, the lightest fabric we use and the legal minimum for non woven carry bags. Lighter fabric means more bags in every kilo, which makes the U-cut the cheapest bag per piece that we make.
- Skip it when: the bag is meant to carry your brand for months. A 60 GSM U-cut is used a few times, not reused for a season.
Handle bags: when the goods are heavier
A handle bag is a flat bag with a loop handle sewn on. The sewn handle spreads the weight across a strip of fabric instead of the edge of a punched hole, so it holds more without tearing.

- Choose it for: heavier garments, jeans and shirts in quantity, footwear boxes, and jewellery shops that want a better bag than a D-cut without the cost of a stitched one.
- Sizes: 12 × 16 to 16 × 20 inch, in 80 GSM.
- Printing: one or two colour offset print, and the handle colour can be matched to your brand. For a full-colour print with photographs, the digital handle bag is a 15 × 17 inch flat bag in 110 GSM.

Stitched bags with a side patty: the bag that stands up
A stitched bag is sewn from separate panels — front, back and a side patty, the strip that forms the sides and bottom. The patty gives the bag depth, so it stands on its own and holds a folded saree or a box flat instead of creasing it.

- Choose it for: saree and silk showrooms, textile shops selling dress materials, sweet boxes and gift orders — and any shop that wants the bag to be reused for months with its name on it.
- Side patty width: 4″ to 12″. A wider patty holds bulkier goods and costs more: a 12 × 16 inch bag is ₹13.50–₹15.50 with a 4″ patty and ₹19–₹21 with a 12″ patty.
- Fabric: 110 GSM, heavier than a D-cut, which is why these are priced per bag.
- Printing: one or two colour offset print, or a full-colour digital print. For a glossy, wipe-clean finish, see BOPP laminated bags.
- Skip it when: you need thousands of bags a month for light goods. A stitched bag costs several times what a D-cut does.
Which bag for which shop
- Readymade, family wear and kids wear: D-cut for everyday billing; handle bag for bigger purchases.
- Saree, silk and textile showrooms: stitched bag with a side patty; digital or BOPP for a photo-quality print.
- Footwear: handle bag for boxes, or a large D-cut.
- Mobile and electronics: D-cut; the boxes are small and light.
- Jewellery: handle bag or a digital handle bag; BOPP laminated for wedding-season orders.
- Medical shops: D-cut for the main counter, U-cut for quick small sales.
- Bakeries, sweet shops, hotels and tiffin centres: U-cut; stitched bags for sweet boxes and festival gift packs.
- Kirana and supermarkets: U-cut for daily billing; stitched bags for bulk purchases.
How the price works: per kg or per piece
D-cut, U-cut and handle bags are sold by weight. The rate per kg stays the same whatever the size, but a bigger or heavier bag means fewer bags in each kilo. Our GSM guide has a rough count of bags per kg by size.
Stitched bags, and digital bags with a side patty, are sold per piece, because the side patty and the stitching are a fixed amount of work per bag. (The digital D-cut is sold by weight.)
Both are priced by the value of your whole order: orders above ₹40,000 get the lowest rate, ₹20,000–₹40,000 the next, and orders below ₹20,000 the highest.

Common questions
Which type of non woven bag is the cheapest? Per bag, the U-cut — it uses the lightest fabric. For clothing and general shops, the D-cut is the cheapest printed bag that carries a shirt or a box properly.
What is a side patty? The strip of fabric that forms the sides and bottom of a stitched bag. Its width — 4″, 6″, 8″, 10″ or 12″ — is the depth of the bag. A wider patty fits bulkier goods.
D-cut or handle bag for a clothing shop? A D-cut for everyday billing of one or two garments. A handle bag when customers buy several items at once, or for heavier goods like jeans and footwear.
What is the minimum order? 10 kg for D-cut and handle bags, 30 kg for U-cut bags, and 200 bags for stitched bags. Full-colour digital bags with a side patty start at 1,000 bags.
